STD infections are becoming a menace in this current era. This may be due to the increase in irresponsible sexual behavior in the society. Due to increased concern by part of the society an STD awareness month was created at the 2009 Congressional Resolution to help in raising awareness.
This month is mainly meant for people to reflect o their sexual action, pass knowledge to people about this STD.It is sad that this month is mostly known for its one day fools day rather than for this noble course. April is the STD awareness month. Spread of STD is common among the youth from the age of 15 to 24.
If detected early some are treatable while others like HIV/AIDS can only be controlled. Information about STD is relayed to the public through different forums to ensure that they are equipped with the relevant knowledge.I have explained specific aspects that relate to STD below.
Different types of STD
They include: Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HIV/AIDS, Genital Herpes and Warts, Chlamydia, or trichomoniasis.
This is the most popular STD. Unlike other STD it has no cure but can be mitigated for one to live positively with it. A the patient is given Anti Retroviral Drugs that help in reducing the effects of the disease. ARVs are the drugs given to a patient to help them normally live by controlling its effects to the body.
To prevent its spread a patient has to take the prescribed drugs, eat healthily and stay away from other infected persons sexually. It is transmitted through sexual encounters with infected persons, from a mother to child in some cases through blood transfusion.
Mothers can transmit it to their children through breastfeeding that is they do not follow all requirements given by their doctor. Women who is breastfeeding can only give their infant’s breast milk exclusively for six months without anything else even including water?
It can be prevented by using condoms during sex.
Effects of Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is increasingly being tested positive in most STDs cases in health facilities. The good news is that most bacterium that causes it is treatable the only one that has proven resistant to medication. One needs to be tested and treated early for if it stays in the body for long, it causes infertility to all genders.A condom or total abstaining from any sexual activity can help prevent this STI.
All About Syphilis
If syphilis is not treated it can cause so much harm in the body like brain damage that may cause madness. .It can get passed from an infected person through genital sex, oral sex or anal. The above are just among the common ones, but that doesn’t mean that the rest occur on rare occasions.
Symptoms, testing at a health facility and treatment
Testing is easy and can be done in a laboratory by a certified health practitioner. Blood, urine or swab samples are drawn from the patient and tested. If results are positive the doctors will advice accordingly.
